RECOMMENDATION
That Council note the report by the Building and Plumbing Officer to the Planning & Environment
Committee Meeting dated 11 July 2017 providing the annual statistics on building applications for
the 2016/17 year.
REPORT
The purpose of this report is to provide Council with annual statistics on building applications.
The statistics provided within this report cover the period from 1 July 2016 to 27 June 2017.
Background
Council’s Building and Plumbing Services Branch has the responsibility for the management and
assessment of building applications as the referral agency assessor. The decision process for
these applications is undertaken with the intent to meet the requirements within the Noosa
Planning Scheme including recent amendments, and includes assessment against the Detached
House Code and Building Works Code and in some circumstances Queensland Development
Code - MP1.2.
Referral Agency Building Activities (RAB)
Council’s Building and Plumbing Branch review RAB applications on behalf of Council. These
activities include the assessment requirements for design and siting which covers boundary
encroachments for single dwellings and associated buildings on all residential land.
Process Review
The Building and Plumbing Branch has implemented a more consistent approach across all
activities and functions regarding siting variations.
Our consistent approach has resulted in a greater number of applications being issued with
conditions, as shown in the table below. Conditions are placed on applications to ensure any
development design reflects all the applicable performance provisions of the relevant Code for
the life of the development.
The table below provides details on the applications received and reviewed since July 2015 for
comparison over the last two years.
