The model was configured to use a domain consisting of 25 x 25 x 25 grid points with nesting
spacings of 30 km, 10 km, 3 km and 1 km.

4.4           Model Settings
For the purposes of the assessment, the air dispersion modelling has utilised the recommended
settings provided in the BCC AQPSP as follows:

⚫ Egan half-height approach to account for terrain effects;
⚫ PRIME method to account for building wake effects;
⚫ Horizontal dispersion curves use Sigma theta curves;
⚫ Vertical dispersion curves use Pasquill–Gifford curves;
⚫ Adjust Pasquill–Gifford formulae for roughness height;
⚫ AUSPLUME defaults for plume rise parameters;
⚫ AUSPLUME defaults for wind speed categories; and
⚫ Irwin urban wind profile exponents for urban areas.

4.5           Background Air Quality
To allow assessment of cumulative pollutant concentrations at the proposed development,
background concentrations have been considered. Where available, background air quality data has
been compiled for the types of compounds emitted from service stations.

Background air quality data over a three year period from the period October 2013 to
September 2015, published by the Queensland Department of Science, Information Technology,
Innovation and the Arts (DSITIA) has been referenced in the air quality assessment 2. A summary of
the ambient concentrations are presented in Table 4.1.
