2.0 DESCRIPTION OF EXISTING CONDITIONS
2.1 Geology and Subsurface Conditions
The 1:100,000 scale Gympie Special Geological Map 1 (Ref. Text Figure 3 below) indicates that the site is
underlain by materials derived of the early to middle Triassic age Kin Kin Beds (pale green blue shading),
which are described as “arenite, argillite and phyllite.”

The Ground Drill investigation comprised drilling of two boreholes (designated BH1 and BH2) to the north
and south of the approximate proposed residence on the future divided allotment, with an additional borehole
(denoted borehole BH6) drilled to capture part of the driveway alignment to the east. Boreholes BH1 and
BH2 were terminated in the underlying weathered rock at a target depth of 2 m below ground level (BGL);
with borehole BH6 extending to auger drilling refusal at 2.5 m BGL.
Additional shallow boreholes were also drilled to the east of the prosed residence on the future allotment, to
provide information for the on-site effluent disposal design. These were taken to a target depth of 1.5 m BGL.
All boreholes were drilled using a 4WD utility mounted drill rig, with solid flight augering equipment. In situ
strength testing comprised the dynamic cone penetrometer (DCP) method, taken from surface adjacent and
at selected depths downhole.
The subsurface profile logged in each of the boreholes was relatively consistent, and comprised the profile
indicated on the following page:
