EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Not applicable.
RECOMMENDATION
That Council note the report by the Environmental Services Manager to the Services &
Organisation Committee Meeting dated 11 December 2018 and approve 6 months Alliance funding
to Zero Emissions Noosa Inc. as provided in Attachment 1 to the report.
REPORT
The purpose of this report is for Council to consider and endorse a 6 months Alliance funding to
Zero Emissions Noosa Inc. (ZEN) as provided at Attachment 1 of this report.
As part of this round of Community Grants funding ZEN Inc. was invited to apply for a 6 month
Community Alliance Agreement.
Since being formed in 2016, ZEN Inc. has garnered thousands of hours of volunteer support and
been active in delivering several community workshops, an Electric Vehicle Expo and is currently
working with renters and real estate agents to increase uptake of solar systems in rental properties
with a view to supporting the community to move towards a zero net emissions target by 2026 This
target is aligned with Council’s own target for Council business to be zero net emissions by 2026.
With a highly motivated volunteer workforce, some support in the form of an Alliance grant has the
potential to provide a great return for the Noosa community for a small investment.
All existing environment-related Alliance grants expire on 30 June 2019. An EOI will be sought in
early 2019 for all interested organisations to submit for future Alliance grants. As a result, this report
only recommends funding until 30 June 2019, and ZEN Inc. will have the opportunity to re-apply
for future Alliance funding at the same time as other organisations.
Previous Council Consideration
Nil.
Finance and Risk
This report recommends a $5,000 Community Alliance grant for the next six months to Zero
Emissions Noosa Inc, to be funded from the Environment Levy.
