INFRASTRUCTURE & SERVICES COMMITTEE MEETING AGENDA 22 JULY 2014

4.      Future of Council Cabs

Potential options for the continuation of Council Cabs include:

    Continue without any active promotion;
    Continue and actively promote the services;
    Continue with a fare increase without any active promotion;
 Continue with a fare increase and actively promote the services; and
 Discontinue Council Cabs and promote alternative transport options.

4.1 Continue Council Cabs without any promotion

Since January 2014, Council Cabs has not been actively promoted due to the review of the
Public Transport area.

To date existing levels of promotion include:
 Information on Council’s website.
 Brochures at Council reception.

In the past six months ending 31 May 2014, there have been a total of seven new individuals
using the service.

It is anticipated that if Council Cabs continues without any promotion, the annual cost to Council would be
approximately $10,460.

4.2 Continue Council Cabs and actively promote the services

Marketing of Council Cabs, particularly in locations where it is currently not being utilised
(Noosaville, Cooroibah, and Cooran) could increase usage of the service.

Council Cabs has the potential to increase patronage through actively promoting the service
through networking with key stakeholders including:
 Disability support services
 Respite Centre
 Meals on Wheels
 Aged care facilitates
 United Synergies
 Doctors surgeries
 Noosa Hospital
 Local RSL’s
 Mobile library
 U3A
 State Govt ( Dept of Communities, Child Safety and Disability Services, Health)

Additionally, Council Cabs could be advertised in Seniors publications, local newspapers,
community noticeboards, social media etc.

Council Cabs services are charged on a per kilometre basis making it difficult to predict future
costs, however based on the existing average of 78 passengers carried per month at an average
cost to Council of $11 per passenger carried, Table 4 below provides estimated costs to Council
should there be an increase in passengers carried due to increased marketing.
