EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Not applicable.
RECOMMENDATION
That Council note the report by the Senior Officer, Transport and Traffic to the Services &
Organisation Committee Meeting dated 8 November 2016 detailing the key outcomes of the Noosa
Traffic Advisory and Speed Management Committee meeting held on 8 September 2016.
REPORT
The purpose of this report is to update Council on the key outcomes of the Noosa Traffic Advisory
and Speed Management Committee meeting held on 8 September 2016.
A good community outcome of recent times has been Council’s success in achieving a Community
Road Safety Grant from the Department of Transport and Main Roads (DTMR) that funded the
purchase of a combined Variable Message Sign (VMS) and speed radar worth $21,450 (excl GST).
This device is now being used to increase road safety by alerting drivers of their speed as well as
displaying road safety messages. As part of the funding agreement Council officers are required
to monitor its performance and effectiveness of curbing speeding behaviour, which will be on-going
over the course of the next 12 months.
A number of other traffic related issues were discussed, with the Committee noting that numerous
traffic investigations are still being undertaken before any final conclusions can be made. A copy
of the Meeting Minutes and Action Matrix is included as Attachment 1 and 2 respectively.
Previous Council Consideration
A regular update is provided to Council each quarter following the meeting of the Noosa Traffic
Advisory and Speed Management Committee meeting.
Finance & Risk
There are ongoing costs associated with traffic investigations in order to ensure a safe road
environment for our community. In most cases safety improvements determined from these
investigations will be funded from operational budgets or referred for consideration in future budget
deliberations.
