5.2.4 Vegetation
The desktop assessment for vegetation has been generally confirmed by the
site assessment with the understorey dominated by heath and low grass
species.
Vegetated areas are dominated by Lophostemon confertus and Callitris
columellaris, with heath and grass species dominating the understorey. Areas
of the site subject to historical clearing are dominated by C. columellaris and
L. confertus regrowth and heath species. Due to the historical clearing, the site
does not conform to the SPP mapping of Very High Potential Bushfire
Intensity as this area is largely dominated by shrubby regrowth.
Previously cleared areas of adjoining Lot 7 were dominated by weed species
including Sphagneticola trilobata (Singapore daisy), Pteridium esculentum
(bracken), Lycopersicon sp. (tomato plants), Lantana Camara (lantana) and
grass species. Vegetated areas were dominated by C. columellaris and L.
confertus with Allocasuarina littoralis and Banksia sp.
Evidence of historical burns was observed on the bark of several mature trees
within the Council Environmental Park bordering the access track on the
eastern boundary. The remnants of a small fire, less than 1m 2, were noted at
the junction of the Pubic Carpark on Resort Drive and the sand track
bordering the eastern boundary.
5.3 Additional Information – Nearest Fire Brigade
The nearest fire station is located at Noosa Heads, approximately 3km to the north of
the site.
6.0 BUSHFIRE BEHAVIOUR ASSESSMENT
6.1 Bushfire Hazard Rating
In accordance with Noosa Plan Planning Scheme Policy 1 hazard scores have been
calculated based on Appendix 3 of the superseded State Planning Policy 1/03
Guideline: Mitigating the Adverse Impacts of Flood, Bushfire and Landslide
(SPP1/03). As the site vegetation does not conform to the vegetation communities
within Table A3.1, Grassy eucalypt and acacia forest, exotic pine plantations, cypress
pine forest, wallum heath has been selected as the most representative. This also
correlates with the hazard score assigned within the Noosa Shire Bushland Fire
Management Plan for R.E. 12.2.5, which surrounds the site to the south and east.
Table 6.1
Hazard Rating Precinct E2
