PROPOSED HOTEL AT NOOSA SPRINGS

My wife and I purchased our home in Noosa Springs some three years ago in the full knowledge of,
and because of, the Council's long history of protecting its inhabitants from the ravages of grubby
Developers. The previous enforced amalgamation into Sunshine Council was eventually reversed
because owners placed great value on their quiet retirement into close-by natural surroundings. We
chose to rely on clear Council dictates that preserved those long-held and clear objectives. We
ourselves are forced to obey those same regulations in any improvements that we might wish to
make to our own properties. And that is proper. So it is inconceivable that Council should now even
have to consider a proposal that violates so many of those regulations, when those regulations and
the values that lie behind them have been known for so long and have been defended so often.
The proposal is a rude affront both to Council and to its dependent citizens, when both of those
parties might have expected at least a respectful proposal from such an ancient and polite culture.

The particular aspects of the proposal that frighten us are (i) the increased amount of traffic that
resident tourists would place on the narrow and otherwise totally inadequate approach road of
Noosa Springs Drive. Recent increases in traffic have turned the roundabout that separates that
road from Links Drive into an unexpected and dangerous trap, so additional volumes would render
reasonable access for residents impossible, especially as in recent bushfire alarms.
(ii) Concessions that are being asked-for on building heights, zoning abnormalities, and setback
restrictions would create precedents that would undo all of Noosa's history of green conservation.
