The majority of the site is characterised by cleared farmland with isolated vegetation patches adjacent to the site’s perimeter and in the site’s northeast about a drainage feature. Various permanent and non-permanent structures are present adjacent to the site’s western boundary and a dwelling with associated infrastructure is present in the northeast corner of the site. The site is zoned as Rural Residential within the Noosa Plan 2020. Plate 2 depicts the site’s position in the landscape and the extent of existing development. Plate 2 – Site Context (Source: Nearmap 2021) 2.2 Topography The slope of the land is a major determinant of fire behaviour, particularly the slope of the land under vegetation that contributes to bushfire hazard. Fire burns faster as it travels up slope, via preheating of unburnt fuels ahead of the fire, increasing the rate of spread and fireline intensity. Conversely, fires move more slowly as they travel downslope. Fireline intensity (kW/m) is a function of the rate of spread (QFES 2019). The site is located on relatively flat terrain. The site reaches a topographic high of approximately 14m AHD along the site boundaries and declines to a topographic low of approximately 11m AHD about the gully in the site’s northeast. Undulating slopes of 1-2 degrees are prevalent across the site. A shallow farm drain leads into a 1st order stream in the northern portion of the site. The stream then flanks the eastern site boundary (off-site) and then returns in a south westerly direction through the south-east corner of the site. Plate 3 depicts topography conditions within and adjacent to the site. © 2022 5
