3. Details of Submission
I (We), make the following submission: We are not in opposition to a car wash in Cooroy per se, however this location is very busy with
constant traffic and both the T-intersections at Opal Street and Diamond Street are already problematic and at times, dangerous to both foot
and vehicle traffic due to the service station entries and exits, the bus stop, limited amount of pedestrian crossings to access town and trains,
and the traffic volume at peak times. The traffic will need to be seriously considered in ANY future development on this site.
My concerns:
- The car wash application is presenting that this business will not increase traffic, however no evidence is presented to support this. The
application states this will be the ONLY RV wash on the Sunshine Coast which would seem likely to therefore attract visitors from further
afield to wash their RV.
-There is a huge volume of traffic coming off K'Gari Island in the warmer months which travels through Cooroy to the Bruce Highway that
would likely find this a very convenient location to wash the salt and sand off their vehicles and RVs on their way to the highway. Yes,
probably traffic that would be passing by already, but would not necessarily be turning into Opal St/Opal Lane unless getting fuel.
- I, Lucy Willy, access the Opal St T-intersection most days of the week and the traffic flow is often poor with regular blockage of traffic
entering and exiting Opal St to/from the main road as vehicles queue to enter the BP service station. E.g.: this week at approximately 6.15am
on a weekday, I was met with a large utility completely blocking my lane and left turn onto the main road from Opal St as it was in the wrong
lane facing the oncoming traffic in Opal St as it queued to enter the BP.
- I am concerned there would be major traffic flow and safety issues with RVs entering and exiting the car wash in this already congested
area.
-The recent increased traffic in Opal St due to the popularity of the My Mates Bowls Pub adds to this traffic congestion in the afternoons as
people search for a park, often randomly stopping without indication in the middle of the street while they ponder options.
- Visibility both entering and exiting Opal St is often blocked by large buses at the bus stop during peak times, and this also means there are
school children crossing Opal Street and the main road in these times of poor visibility.
