3.1.9 Habitat Suitability Model
DES prepares Habitat Suitability Models for listed species in Queensland. The relevant
models for Vulnerable-listed Wallum frog species were assessed, given the presence of
suitable habitat within the Potential Impact Area and buffer, and the potential for impacts to
wallum frog habitat, from changes in groundwater/surface water flows.
The models for Wallum Froglet (Crinia tinnula), Wallum Rocketfrog (Litoria freycineti) and
Wallum Sedgefrog (Litoria olongburensis) delineate ‘core’ and ‘non-core’ habitat for each
species and include a representation of known and potential habitat as well as a measure
of confidence in attributing the habitat value (Figure 5).
For Wallum Froglet (Crinia tinnula), the model shows:
Core Habitat:
o RE 12.3.13 (Closed heathland on seasonally waterlogged alluvial plains) and
RE 12.3.5 (Melaleuca quinquenervia open forest on coastal alluvium).
“Non-Core” Habitat:
o RE 12.5.4 (Eucalypt woodland on complex of remnant Tertiary surfaces and
Cainozoic and Mesozoic sediments).
Core and non-core habitat encroach into the Potential Impact Area and 100 metre
buffer.
The core habitat area is associated with a drainage line system that flows in a
northeasterly direction from the landfill site.
For Wallum Rocketfrog, (Litoria freycineti) all areas mapped as RE12.3.13/12.3.5 are
considered ‘core habitat’ areas.
For Wallum Sedgefrog (Litoria olongburensis), the areas mapped as RE 12.3.13/12.3.5 that
encroach into the survey area and 100 metre buffer are mapped as ‘non-core’.
