Native Foresters
iii. RE 12.3.5 – Least Concern
Melaleuca quinquenervia open forest to woodland. Onsite this vegetation type occurs
along the drainage lines on areas mapped as containing alluvial soils (Figure 8). The
understorey, which contains species such as Tall Saw sedge (Gahnia sieberiana), Zig
Zag Bog Rush (Schoenus melanostachyos) and Silk Pod vine (Parsonsia straminea),
is open and prone to weed invasion.
Within the area of interest, this RE is mapped within a heterogeneous polygon with RE
12.3.13 (closed wet heath) as a 70% RE 12.3.13/30% RE 12.3.5 split. The mapping
for the site could be refined with respect to the drainage line that occurs at the northern
end of the landfill at 26.4361oS; 153.0261oE and contains Melaleuca quinquenervia
open forest but is mapped as RE 12.3.13. Melaleuca quinquenervia forest has a
distinctive canopy signature under aerial photo interpretation.
