ORDINARY MEETING MINUTES 20 FEBRUARY 2020
Question 2:
In regard to the Cooran-Pomona pathway, why has Council noted that it might
recommend a downgrading of the path’s B priority status within the State’s Principal
Bicycle Network, when it has not considered this project within the pathway study and
therefore, lacks and informed basis to which to pre-judge the Cooran-Pomona path’s
status within an overall Shire-wide Cycling and Connectivity Study?
Response by Carl Billingham, Director Infrastructure Services:
Unfortunately, your question appears to be based on a misunderstanding. A letter from
our Infrastructure Planning, Design and Delivery Manager to Cooran Earth Rights dated
31 October 2019 noted that the priority status of the Cooran-Pomona route could change
based on the findings of the Shire Wide Walking & Cycling Strategy, however, it did not
preempt the Strategy by making any recommendations regarding a change in the priority
status of the path.
Noosa Council has not and will not be making any recommendations to the Department
of Transport and Main Roads in relation to revising the prioritisation of the Cooran-
Pomona link until after the completion of the Shire Wide Walking & Cycling
Strategy. Work on Noosa’s Shire Wide Walking & Cycling Strategy is currently underway
and is due for completion by the end of the year. This work involves reassessing existing
and potential new pathways across the Shire and prioritising these linkages for Council’s
future capital works programs.
