INFRASTRUCTURE & SERVICES COMMITTEE MEETING AGENDA 11 NOVEMBER 2014
2. Options considered
Option 1
The request is to name the ferry area Woods Landing. There are already numerous signs of
varying sizes in this area and clear space around the two ferry landing areas is limited however a
sign could be erected in the grassed space between the two landings (Attachment 1, photo 2).
The sign would be the same size and style as the sign in Sid Robinson Park and total cost,
including installation, would be approximately $800.
Option 2
A fish cleaning table and bench seat were installed by locals on the banks of the river in 2006
(Attachment 1, photo 3). The bench seat is dilapidated and is in the process of being replaced by
Parks. A second option would be to install a plaque on the seat as a tribute to Herb Woods.
Costs of plaque and installation would be approximately $400.
Option 3
This is the now the preferred option of Herb’s daughter, Coral Ross. This option is to remove two
Cocos palms planted in a small grassed area to the east of the ferry landing area (refer
Attachment 1, photo 4), and replace them with a more suitable native tree tolerant of the
conditions in this area, either a Tuckeroo or Hard Quandong. The addition of a small
commemorate plaque at the base of the tree would provide a tribute to Herb Woods as founder
of the Noosa River ferry service. The cost to remove the palms, plant and maintain the new tree
and install the plaque is approximately $1000. This option is supported by the Parks Leader. The
Woods’ family has offered to contribute $500 to costs involved.
