QBFP Noosa Boatshed Planning Report
Community engagement
There has been a high level of community interest in the replacement of the Noosaville Boatshed, particularly from
nearby residents. The project approach includes targeted consultation with nearby residents and sought to:
Provide an overview of the site history, QBFP operational requirements and strategic locational characteristics,
and community benefit;
Provide information on amendments to the boat shed design; ‘Before (May 2017) and After’ visualisations;
Communicate the design and siting parameters associated with the facility, particularly those aspects which
cannot be changed due to operational, safety and management requirements;
Provide an opportunity to understand concerns regarding the redevelopment of the boat shed, including any
additional mitigation measures considered that could be implemented as part of the development application; and
Outline the next steps in the development assessment process, including any further opportunities for
engagement as part of formal public notification.
To date there have been two (2) rounds of community engagement in April and August 2019 to gain feedback on
the proposed development. This process involved sending personalised mailouts to over 45 local residents
inviting community members to meet with the project team to discuss the project.
A range of options, issues and opportunities were raised by the consulted community, particularly in relation to
building height, building materials and landscaping. The department have sought to address these key concerns
through the development design process and architectural plans prepared by Noel Robinson Architect attached
as Appendix C that involved an evolution in design approach – Figures 7 and 8.

Following engagement in August 2019, some community members still raised concern with the overall building height
(Figure 8). DHPW has explored further options with Queensland Boating and Fisheries Patrol (QBFP), building
engineers and panel lift door manufactures to address this feedback, which has resulted in an amended building
design. The proposed changes include the installation of a panel lift door and use of single plane skillion roof form.
These changes reduce the overall building height to approximately 4.7 m above the shed floor level, a reduction in
the current building height of over 1.2m. Letters were sent to nearby residents in October 2019 providing an overview
of the feedback received, an update on the design process and timeframes for the lodgement of the development
application. An additional letter will be sent to residents once the development application has been lodged and
deemed properly made by Council to provide residents with advice on viewing application material online and
opportunities for further comment through the public notification process.
