Fungicide Program – Greens surfaces


1. Disease Identification and Monitoring

  - Regular Scouting: Inspect greens frequently for early signs of disease. This includes checking
for discoloration, patchiness, or unusual growth patterns.

  - Record Keeping: Maintain detailed records of disease occurrences, weather conditions, and
treatment efficacy to help predict future outbreaks.



2. Cultural Practices

  - Mowing Practices: Adjust mowing heights to reduce stress on the turf. Avoid mowing when
the grass is wet to prevent disease spread.

  - Aeration and Thatch Management: Regular aeration helps improve soil drainage and reduces
thatch, which can harbor pathogens.

 - Irrigation Management: Water deeply but infrequently to promote deep root growth. Avoid
watering in the late afternoon or evening to minimize leaf wetness periods that favour fungal
growth.

 - Nutrient Management: Follow soil test recommendations for fertilization. Avoid excessive
nitrogen, which can promote succulent growth susceptible to diseases.



3. Fungicide Selection

  - Broad-Spectrum and Targeted Fungicides: Use a mix of broad-spectrum fungicides and those
targeted at specific pathogens identified on the greens.

 - Rotational Programs: Rotate fungicides with different modes of action to prevent resistance
development. Follow the Fungicide Resistance Action Committee (FRAC) guidelines for rotating
products.

  - Systemic and Contact Fungicides: Incorporate both systemic fungicides, which move within
the plant, and contact fungicides, which remain on the surface, for comprehensive protection.



4. Application Timing

 - Preventive Applications: Apply fungicides preventively, especially during periods of known
disease pressure based on historical data and current weather forecasts.
