Managing wetlands/Lakes in Noosa Springs involves several critical tasks to ensure the
health and sustainability of these ecosystems. Here’s an overview of the key aspects of
wetland/Lakes management at Noosa Springs:

1. Weeding

Weeding is crucial for maintaining the balance of native plant species. It involves:

• Manual Removal: Hand-pulling invasive species to prevent them from outcompeting
native plants.
• Mechanical Methods: Using tools or machinery to remove larger infestations.
• Chemical Control: Applying herbicides selectively to target invasive species without
harming native plants.

2. Native Plants

Introducing and maintaining native plant species helps preserve the ecological
balance. Key activities include:

• Planting Native Species: Lepironia articulata, Isolepis nodosa, Carex appressa
• Rehabilitation Projects: Restoring disturbed areas with native vegetation.
• Monitoring: Regularly checking the health and spread of native plants.

3. Maintenance Methods

Maintaining wetlands involves:

• Regular Monitoring: Keeping track of water quality, plant health, and wildlife.
Quarterly Nutrient water testing is carried out through ALS (Australian Laboratory
Services) Strategic placement of Aerators (Currently 3 have been added in 2024). Use of
Probiotics - BioStim (Biology)
• Hydrological Management: Ensuring proper water levels and flow to support wetland
functions. (As per weir on the 5th hole)
• Erosion Control: Implementing measures to prevent soil erosion and sedimentation.
Continued planting along the water edges with native wetland plants (To create habitat,
food and help with erosion issues) and use of rocks through fast flow areas and on
corners/bends where we have erosion evident.
