10 P LANT Z ONE E NRICHMENT
Several steps can be taken while planting new plants or enhancing existing ones to improve
their establishment rate and boost their vigour. This not only benefits the plant's overall health
but also enhances the aesthetics it offers:

10.1 SOIL IMPROVEMENTS
De-compaction, if necessary, by gentle cultivation to a depth of 300-500mm. Spread a layer
of sandy loam topsoil 50-100mm in depth spread to increase the tree’s rooting area and raise
the ground level around surface roots and generally level the site where required. This
additional soil provides fresh nutrients and encourages the development of smaller non-woody
feeder roots. The application of a seaweed-based soil conditioner/plant food will support soil
life colonisation and augment the nutrients available for the plants and trees.

10.2 MULCHING
Spread decaying forest mulch over as large an area as possible around the tree to a depth of
100mm, avoiding the base of the tree itself. There are numerous benefits mulch provides to
the soil beneath and the tree roots growing within it including moisture retention, an increase
in beneficial fungal growth as the mulch slowly decays and forms a layer of compost providing
an ideal environment for soil life and positive growing conditions.

As the works at the course are undertaken, the mulch can be directly deposited and spread
beneath the retained trees.

Please note that mulch from weed trees in seed is to be removed from site to avoid spread.

10.3 ADDITIONAL PLANT HEALTH CARE
In addition to a consistent watering schedule, especially during the initial phase of growth, to
aid root establishment, regular applications of a seaweed-based soil conditioner/plant food will
feed the soil life. Promoting healthy growth for stronger safer trees that add amenity value to
the local area and the associated benefits that come with having a healthy plantscape.
