REPORT
The Noosa Cycling and Walking Strategy and Implementation Plan (NCWSIP), provided in
Attachment 2 to the report, sets out Council’s proposed direction and commitment to the vision of
“More people riding a bike and walking for health, transport, tourism and the environment by making
riding a bike and walking so convenient and safe that it is the preferred mode of transport for our
residents and visitors.”
The Strategy aligns to existing Council strategies and plans such as the Noosa Transport Strategy,
the Noosa Environment Strategy, Noosa's Social Strategy and the Sport and Active Recreation Plan
as well as the Noosa Design Principles.
The significance of the NCWSIP is that it defines and prioritises a list of projects for Council to deliver,
with many of them eligible for Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) grant funding. Key
projects within the 10-year horizon include:
Noosa Parade upgrade
Garth Prowd Bridge pathway widening
Noosa Drive off road path
Maple St shared path
Sunshine Beach Road bikeway; and
Hilton Esplanade cycle street.
