Community comment Proposed response
dedicated bins in popular, high-traffic locations).
Raise awareness of the need to reduce waste from
batteries and other emerging technologies.
Amend Strategic Priority 8.3 to specifically address
household and business waste, not just community
waste. e.g. Create a fourth bin for organic/food waste
for households and a mandatory strategy for
restaurants and cafes.
Need a 2026 target of 75% or similar to help achieve
the zero emissions goal. Could a trial be
implemented by 2023 where X number of
households have a separate food waste bin that is
sent to a commercial composting facility that then
supplies compost to local farms.
Regional Climate Action Roadmap
Noosa Council in conjunction with Sunshine Coast Council has been awarded a grant for $210,000
from the state government through the LGAQ’s Queensland Climate Resilient Councils (QCRC)
grant program to further the councils’ climate change programs. The objective of the grant is to
develop a climate action roadmap that addresses both climate change impacts and the transition to
a low carbon economy.
The project will pilot the implementation of the QCRC’s Climate Risk Management Framework and
guidelines. It will build a positive foundation for region-wide climate action and provide the councils
and the broader community with an increased awareness and understanding of climate risks and
their implications, as well as provide a strategic position statement for responding to regional climate
risks.
Through this project, the councils will be inviting involvement from key community representatives
and industry leaders to help identify best practice approaches for the different economic, social and
environmental sectors across the Sunshine Coast. The project will also have a broader education
and awareness raising component through the development of a climate information tool kit.
QCRC Alliance Grant
The State Government has awarded a further collaborative grant of $100,000 to a number of south-
east Queensland councils including Noosa to work together to co-design, develop and manage a
Climate Resilience Alliance. The grant will support the appointment of a coordinator to support the
participating councils in accelerating on-ground, community wide actions to reduce greenhouse gas
emissions, transition communities to a low carbon economy, and build resilience to climate risk. The
councils will be working together to determine a specific focus for the project over the coming months.
