Attachment 7A - Impact Assessment Report
Native Foresters
o Potential EVNT species:
• Wallum sedgefrog (Litoria olongburensis) – Vulnerable and Sand yabby
(Cherax robustus) - Vulnerable, have been located adjacent to the
impact area in Lot 77 by Native Foresters during 2019 to 2022 surveys.
• Endangered Koala (Phascolarctos cinereus) has 11 sightings recorded
on WildNET in a 1km radius of the impact area (DES 2022).
(iii) Koala Habitat Area –
o Core (SEQ) Koala Habitat Area (KHA) is present within the Noosa Landfill
expansion area, including 0.21ha within the impact area which will be cleared
of all vegetation including mature trees to provide for expansion of the landfill
operations. The core Koala Habitat Area (KHA) within the impact area of Lot
77 SP298776 contains 0.21ha of remnant Endangered Regional Ecosystem
(RE) 12.5.3 - Eucalyptus racemosa subsp. racemosa woodland on remnant
Tertiary surfaces (Figure 2).
o Locally Refined (SEQ) KHA is present within the Noosa Landfill expansion
area, including 0.81ha within the centre of the impact area which will be cleared
of all vegetation including mature trees to provide for expansion of the landfill
operations. The locally refined KHA vegetation contains 0.81ha of Least
Concern RE 12.3.13- Closed heathland on seasonally waterlogged alluvial
plains usually near coast. This section of mapped closed heathland is
dominated by known Koala food trees including Swamp mahogany (Eucalyptus
robusta), and Broad-leaved paperbark (Melaleuca quinquenervia), and
provides core habitat for koala, which is listed as Endangered under the NCA
Act and Endangered under the EPBC Act.
o The impact area is mapped as Koala Priority Area
A Summary of the MSES that occur within the Noosa Landfill Expansion impact area is
shown in Table 3 and the location of the MSES in the impact area is shown in Figure 2.
