after 2 years of operation and;
A. Request the Chief Executive Officer provide Council with an update and a revised action
plan after a further twelve (12) months of operation;
B. Request the Chief Executive Officer to review and update the Noosa Social Strategy in
2018/19 for Council’s consideration in 2019/2020; and
C. Adopt the 2018 Social Charter as set out in Attachment2 of the report.
REPORT
The 2014/2015 Operational Plan identified the development of a Social Plan for Noosa Shire as a
key objective. A Noosa Social Plan was adopted in December 2015 covering the period 2016-
2023 (The Social Plan) which sets out Noosa’s aspirations and social priorities for the next seven
years.
The Social Strategy articulates four key themes which provide the focus for the Strategy’s key
initiatives and actions. They are:
Cohesive and resilient communities
Active and healthy communities
Accessible, diverse and affordable communities
Creative and informed communities
When the Strategy was approved at the Ordinary meeting on 17 December 2015, Council
requested the Chief Executive Officer to develop an Implementation Plan detailing a three year
action plan to support the Social Strategy.
The Implementation Plan was prepared and presented to Council in July 2016. It is a whole of
Council plan but primary responsibility for its implementation rests with the Community
Development team.
Social Charter
Following last year’s annual report to Council on the implementation of the Social Strategy,
Councillors requested a review of the 2006 Social Charter. The 2006 Social Charter formed part
of Councils previous 2006 – 2016 Social Strategy. It was a short statement that articulated the
feelings of Noosa residents with regard to their community and fellow citizens. It was distributed
to new residents in Council Welcome Kits and sent to resorts, business and other venues for
display.
