PM Submission - Margaret Calvert - MCU21/0110
I wish to object to the proposed hotel development at Noosa Springs Golf Club. The current land upon which the majority of the hotel will be built is currently zoned for Open Space Recreation Zone NOT Tourist and Accommodation Zone . Noosa Springs Golf Course and Resort is currently heavily used by both Noosa residents and visitors. Building this hotel with 200+ beds will completely overwhelm the current facilities, especially to the detriment of local residents who actually pay rates to live in the local area and who also greatly value the existing bushland and wildlife. There are already number of short stay villas available which services visitors who wish to use the golf course. The current carpark has 220 spaces which is often full. The hotel application proposes an extra 25 spaces which is totally inadequate for a hotel with a capacity of 200+ guests. There are no other alternative car parking spaces in the vicinity because you cannot park along Links Drive and the parking at Parkview is designated solely for residents and guests of that development. How can Noosa Council allow existing zoning laws to be ignored because a well-heeled developer decides to present a planning proposal that will deplete from the natural beauty and amenity of the Noosa Springs area? Noosa Council has an obligation to the local residents to resist pressure from developers who have little regard for the uniqueness of Noosa and high regard for a quick profit.
