SERVICES & ORGANISATION COMMITTEE MEETING AGENDA 6 AUGUST 2019
4. SYSTEMS, PROCESSES AND OTHER MATTERS
The NAC is nearing the completion of the trial of an electronic time and attendance system
(Tanda). Whilst assisting greatly with rostering and therefore helping to control the facility’s
largest expense line (wages), fully accommodating the highly complex industrial relations
environment of Council has proved challenging for the system. A report with greater detail and
the path forward will follow the completion of the trial.
The NAC’s website and social media presence have become valued tools in driving revenue and
customer growth and in building the NAC community.
As referenced earlier, the NAC commenced an 8-week maintenance shutdown on 24 June 2019
in order to facilitate the completion of major capital works projects. A budget of $932k has been
allocated and will fund works including the emptying of the 50m pool to replace the coping tiles,
grout, expansion joints and wet deck, replacement of the leisure pool’s wet deck, full replacement
of the centre’s roof and large wooden deck, replacement of a heat pump and associated valves
and other more minor maintenance projects. The facility has a planned reopening date of
Monday 19 August 2019 following completion of all works.
Installation of the remaining 72kw of rooftop solar panels will occur following completion of roof
replacement works. Once finalised, the NAC and the surrounding environment will benefit from a
total of 100kw of rooftop solar thanks to Council’s ZEN program.
5. FUTURE DIRECTION
The NAC’s main priority for the beginning of 2019/20 is to closely manage the various capital
works projects to ensure reopening in line with current expectations. Following reopening,
management will turn its efforts to quickly rebuilding visitation levels to aid continued strong
financial performance.
Given the program’s size and significance, the NAC will soon embark on developing a strategy to
guide the LTS program over the coming years. The program has consistently performed to a high
standard and is well regarded in the industry, however, the team are keen to determine ways to
stay ahead of the curve and ensure it remains as a highly successful program, particularly given
this year’s pullback.
In addition, the NAC is to undertake a master planning process to ensure we continue to search
for ways to be even better and to provide the community with a facility that continues to adapt to
meet the changing ways in which our community recreates.
The scheduled opening of the St Andrew’s Anglican College aquatic facility at Peregian Springs
in August 2019 is expected to have some impact on the NAC. While there may be an initial
setback to the NAC’s revenue streams, over time it is expected that programs and patrons that
shift to St Andrew’s will be replaced by others. In the interim, the community is likely appreciate
the reduction in patron load during peak times.
