EARTHWORKS:
1. Prepare the existing foundation below by removal of any top-soil
containing organic matter which could inhibit compaction
2. Proof roll the foundation and remove and reconstruct areas that
3 3
break up or show evidence of movement under proof loading.
3. Sand filling under slabs or footings shall be placed in 200mm - -
max layers, (Uncompacted), Compacted in accordance with AS1289 D.J.
E5.1 (Density to be greater than 65% in accordance with AS1289
E6.1)
4. Fill material other than sand (ie gravel, decomposed rock or
broken rock, free from organic material and lumps of clay) under
slabs or footings to be compacted to achieve an density ratio
(calculated by AS1289 E4.1) of not less that 95% at maximum
dry density as determined by AS 1289 E1.1
Alternatively fill is to be placed an machine track rolled and piers
drilled/installed as per the layout plan. Compaction testing is then
not required due to the presence of supporting piers.
5. All Earthworks to be carried out in accordance with AS 3798
Indicates span direction
of Bondek slab.

GENERAL:
1. These drawings are to be read in conjunction with HR Design Group
Specification FS.01.
TANKS:
It is recommended that underground tanks comply with the following:
1. Screens with the following characteristics to be provided to cover each orifice outlet:
a) For orifices up to 150Ø, a fine aperture-expanded metal mesh screen (BHP
Maximesh RH3030 or equivalent) with a minimum area of 50 times the area
of the orifice. For larger diameter orifices, a courser grid mesh with a
minimum area 20 times the orifice area may be used as an alternative.
b) Steel screens to be stainless steel or hot-dipped galvanized. 1 1
c) Where aperture-expanded mesh screens are employed, they must be - -
positioned so that the oval shaped holes are horizontal, with the protruding
lip angled upwards & facing downstream. A handle may be fitted to ensure
correct orientation & easy removal for maintenance.
d) Screens to be located so that they are at least 1.5 times the orifice diameter
or 200mm from the orifice plate, whichever is the greater. D.J.
e) Screens to be placed no flatter than 45° to the horizontal in shallow
storages up to 600mm deep. In deeper or more remote locations, the
= = =
minimum angle should be 60° to the horizontal.
