SERVICES & ORGANISATION COMMITTEE MEETING AGENDA 7 SEPTEMBER 2021
2.5 Paid Parking - Noosa Heads Lions Park
As adopted at the Ordinary Meeting on 17 September 2020, the Noosa Heads Lions Park
greenspace will be used as an overflow car park during school holidays and long weekends for the
period of the public health declaration of the COVID-19 pandemic, weather dependent.
A request for inconsistent use of the park for paid parking has been entered into with the Department
of Natural Resources and Mines (DNRME). No further correspondence has been entered into with
DNRME due to the fact that the public health directive is still in place as such the park continues to
be used for paid parking during all school holidays and long weekends. Further discussions with
DNRME will occur as required.
The Tewantin-Noosa Lions Club will operate the car park from 8:30am to 5.00pm daily. Vehicles
are charged a flat rate of $20 (incl. GST) per day or part thereof. Revenue is shared 50/50 between
The Tewantin-Noosa Lions Club and Council.
Council’s revenue from paid parking funds:
rectification of any damage/impact from parking on the reserve
the hire of temporary fencing to protect children at the playground & BBQ area
parking signage at Lions Park
printing of tickets, and
the use of traffic control to assist in the movement of pedestrians from Lions Park.
In addition, 50% of Council’s share will be held in reserve and allocated to recreational improvements
in the Noosa Heads Lions Park.
Paid parking at the Noosa Heads Lions park is not part of the above recommendations because use
of the park for paid parking during peak holidays was adopted at the 17 September 2021 Ordinary
Meeting (refer section on Previous Council considerations below).
2.6 Wayfinding
To further assist pedestrians and bus passengers, temporary wayfinding signage will be installed in
and around Noosa Heads and Noosa Junction as well as at bus stops.
It is also proposed to have a bus passenger assistant at the Noosa Heads Bus Interchange to assist
passengers with wayfinding on week-ends and public holidays.
2.7 End of Trip Facilities
It is proposed to investigate the provision of additional temporary bicycle racks and scooter parking
in high use areas.
2.8 Parallel parking – Hastings Street
In order to reduce vehicle traffic movements that impact on the Hastings St/Noosa Drive roundabout
it is proposed to temporarily convert four parallel car parking bays on the southern side of Hastings
Street to increase footpath space and temporary scooter parking.
2.9 Marketing and Evaluation
The Easter 2021 Go Noosa evaluation survey found that 40% of survey respondents were aware of
Go Noosa because they caught a free bus the previous year (this figure has been increasing each
year). Go Noosa aims to continue to build public awareness of the brand.
It is also proposed to use community and stakeholder networks to promote Go Noosa including
Noosa Junction Traders Association, Tourism Noosa, accommodation providers, Hastings Street
Association and TransLink.
