3. Details of Submission
i I (We), make the following submission: I oppose the Noosa Civic Expansion.
I am neither a business owner or a landlord in Noosa however I oppose the proposed expansion of the Noosa Civic
Centre on the grounds that Noosa already has too much retail space as is evidenced by the commercial vacancies and
business closures (eg berardos) in all Noosa shopping areas including (but not limited to) Noosa Junction, Tewantin,
I Noosa Village and Hastings 51.
Each new vacancy steals a little vibrancy from its surrounding area, further diminishing the appeal of the remaining
businesses to the consumer
I Noosa is no exception to the rapid decline of traditional retail shopping that is occurring thoughout Australia.
Tourism is Noosa's main industry. Tourists come here to go to the beach, go to restaurants, perhaps wander along and
I boutique shop and see family and friends. They don't come to go the mall. They come to get away from the mall.
Many of Noosa's residences are second homes and unoccupied much of the year. And like the tourists when they come
the occupants aren't coming to go to the mall.
I The Noosa Civic will only exacerbate the problem of oversupply of retail space that already exists.
I For these reasons I oppose the Noosa Civic Expansion proposal.
