Bushfire Evacuation Plan v4 NCES REF: J001061 Lot 7 on RP216403, Lot 394 on M371117, and Lot 650 on M37380 — 48-59 Kabi Road, Cootharaba 8. EVACUATION TRIGGERS The response ‘triggers’ which initiate emergency actions on a site should be devised with consideration given to numerous factors including the proximity of the bushfire to the site, advice regarding the matter issued by QFES and the status of the current National Fire Danger Rating System (FDRS). Fire danger ratings describe the potential level of danger should a bushfire start. They are important because they provide people with information to take action to protect themselves and others from the potentially dangerous impacts of bushfires. They do not indicate the chance of a fire occurring, although this is a common misconception. Ratings are calculated via the Fire Behaviour Index (FBI) which uses a combination of weather forecasting and information about vegetation that could fuel a fire (AFAC 2023). The FBI index rages from 0 through to a maximum of 100+ which co-coincides with a Catastrophic fire danger rating category. A guide to understanding the FDR system and associated fire behaviour potential is presented in Plate 5 (QFES, 2023) bare taray ol eo 0-5 No rating Plate 5 — National Fire Danger Rating System The following section outlines the steps to be taken as the FDR increases; however, an earlier evacuation may be triggered by other circumstances such as thick smoke causing medical problems for occupants of the site. It should be noted that in the event of a bushfire emergency, designated and appropriately qualified and trained staff are to remain onsite to assist with shelter in place activities and QFES personnel responding to a bushfire emergency. 1. Precautions for a prevailing Low — Moderate fire danger rating. e Staff are aware of evacuation procedures. e Ensure internal access roads including south-east secondary emergency access trail are maintained and can accommodate the expected traffic. 2. Precautions for a prevailing High fire danger rating. e Staff are aware of evacuation procedures. e Ensure that water points are functional. e Ensure internal access roads including south-east secondary emergency access trail are unobstructed and can accommodate the expected traffic. e Staff to be warned of the potential risk. e Ensure that signage informing personnel of the evacuation procedures in the event of a bushfire are provided on site. © 2024 7
