Bushfire Hazard Assessment & Management Plan v4 NCES REF: J001061 Lot 7 on RP216403, Lot 394 on M371117, and Lot 650 on M37380 — 48-59 Kabi Road, Cootharaba 2 Site Description 2.1 General The site covers approximately 130ha and is located in the rural area of Cootharaba. The site currently supports Kabi Farm Golf hosting an 18-hole golf course, restaurant, orchard, pasture, dams, staff accommodation and various sheds. In general, the northem portion of the site is host to grazing land, the central extent is host to the golf course and associated activities, whilst the southern and eastern site extents are host to unmanaged bushland. The site is generally bordered by rural allotments hosting large areas of bushland and cleared areas about existing infrastructure. Notably, a large slash pine plantation is present to the north and northwest of the site in the neighbouring allotment. The site is zoned as Rural within the Noosa Plan 2020. Plate 2 depicts the site’s position in the landscape and the extent of existing development. 2.2 Topography The slope of the land is a major determinant of fire behaviour, particularly the slope of the land under vegetation that contributes to bushfire hazard. Fire burns faster as it travels up slope, via preheating of unburnt fuels ahead of the fire, increasing the rateof spread and fireline intensity. Conversely, fires move more slowly as they travel downslope. Fireline intensity (kW/m) is a function of the rate of spread (QFES 2019). The site is located on undulating terrain resulting in slopes between 1-5 degrees across the site. The site reaches a topographic high of approximately 30m AHD about the north-western boundary and declines towards the central and southern site extent to a topographic low of 10m AHD. © 2024 6
