RECOMMENDATION
That Council note the report by the Technical Officer – Natural Areas to the Planning and
Environment Committee Meeting dated 8 June 2021 and the Further Report to the Ordinary Meeting
dated 17 June 2021 and adopt the revised Noosa Bushland Reserve Strategic Management Plan
2021 – 2026 provided as Attachment 1 to the Ordinary Meeting report.
REPORT
A report on the Draft Noosa Bushland Reserve Strategic Management Plan was presented to the
Planning and Environment Committee Meeting on 8 June 2021. Councillors referred the matter to
the General Committee Meeting on 14 June 2021 for discussion with all Councillors due to the
significance of the issue. At the General Committee Meeting, Councillors requested that a further
report be presented to the Ordinary Meeting on 17 June 2021 incorporating additional information.
A revised draft of the Noosa Bushland Reserve Strategic Management Plan 2021 - 2026 is attached
to this report incorporating the additional information requested by Councillors. The amendments are
summarised below:
A clear reference to the values ecosystems provide including reducing erosion, contributing to
water quality and the impacts of climate change.
Explanation of why ecosystems services are considered a subset of the biodiversity outcomes
sought by the Plan.
Reaffirming the focus on “likelihood of success” within the Plan and the long-term improvement
in ecosystem condition and, by extension, the quality of ecosystem services.
Addressing how the draft Coastal Hazards Adaptation Plan and the Coastal Foreshore
Management Plan will specify, prioritise and guide management actions, including the role
foreshore reserves play in asset protection.
The above amendments can be viewed within Attachment 1 - Draft Noosa Bushland Reserve
Strategic Management Plan; Section 4.2 Ecosystem Services Values (see page 15) and 4.2.4
Climate Change Amelioration (see page 18)
