2. QUALITY AND RESPONSIBILITIES 2.1. ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION The Contractor will ensure that all materials and the execution of the work are ecologically sound, environmentally benign and consistent with the principles of sustainable development. The Contractor is to ensure that no damage occurs to any existing trees or other plants which: • Are specified to be retained; • Are beyond the extent of works; • Need not be removed or damaged during the course of the works. The Contractor will prevent the spread of dirt and mud along roads and paths. The Contractor will install silt and sedimentation control for the work. At all times the Contractor shall ensure that dust resulting from work in progress including excavation, backfilling, grading and dust from stockpiles is kept to an absolute minimum by use of a water truck or other approved methods. Construction works shall be undertaken pursuant to the Environmental Protection Policy – Noise (EPP) in relation to control of noise from construction activities. The Contractor will be responsible for assessing any potential wildlife problems when tendering and during the course of the works. Allowance must be made for any protection or control of such pests the Contractor deems necessary including the prevention of Fire Ants entering the site via equipment, machinery, materials or plant stock. Subsequent wildlife damage to planting or other works will be deemed as defective work and subject to replacement as per the normal contract conditions. Any proposed method of protection or control of pests must be agreed with the Superintendent prior to use on site. Landscape works must not obstruct overland flow paths and must include adequate drainage to minimise ponding. Mulch or any floatable material must not be located in swales, overland flow paths or around grated drains; and must not encroach onto kerb and channel, footpaths, pedestrian or vehicular/ circulation areas. 2.2. EXISTING WORKS Where works are adjacent to existing works, the Contractor is responsible for making the proper junction between new and existing works. The Contractor shall not disturb the existing ground surface outside of areas or locations shown on the Drawings. The Contractor is to repair or replace any damaged softscape, paving, kerbing, walls, fences, services, building facades or structures inside or outside the extent of works, which were damaged due to the Contractors. 2.3. QUALITY & REGULATIONS Performance of work is to be in accordance with all applicable laws, rules and regulations required by authorities having jurisdiction over such work. All work needs to comply with the National Construction Code (NCC) and Australian Standards.
