EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

RECOMMENDATION
That Council note the report by the Chief Executive Officer to the Services & Organisation
Committee Meeting dated 10 May 2016 and approve Cr Wilkie as Noosa Council’s delegate for
the Tourism and Events Queensland and State Tourism Organisation’s “Sunshine Coast Leaders
on Tour” to New Zealand 12-15 June 2016.
REPORT
Tourism and Events Queensland (TEQ), the State Tourism Organisation, in partnership with Visit
Sunshine Coast, the Regional Tourism Organisation, have invited a delegate from Noosa Council
to attend the “Sunshine Coast Leaders on Tour” to New Zealand 12-15 June 2016, to undertake
marketing and experience development activities to help industry achieve growth in visitor
numbers and expenditure for the region.
The delegation will be inspired to think innovatively by a world renowned example of Brand
Management including studying the work undertaken by Tourism New Zealand through its “100%
Pure New Zealand” tourism campaign, covering their challenges, core values and attributes,
regional perspectives and branding as a basis for identifying what needs to be done in our own
region and embracing activities and actions needed to ‘bring the Sunshine Coast to life’.
TEQ are hosting key stakeholders on this trip with the delegation including the Mayors from
Gympie Regional Council and Sunshine Coast Council. Deputy Mayor Frank Wilkie is Noosa
Council’s representative on the Tourism Noosa Board and is the clear choice to take part in this
delegation on behalf of Noosa Council.
Under the Councillors’ Expenses Reimbursement Policy, Item 2 Professional Development, any
professional development requiring overseas travel requires a formal Council Resolution;
accordingly this report seeks Council’s approval for Cr Wilkie to attend.
Previous Council Consideration
Nil.
Finance & Risk
TEQ and its partner Visit Sunshine Coast are providing the tour at no charge to Noosa Council.
The tour includes airfares, accommodation and meals at TEQ’s cost. Incidental costs e.g. airport
parking/transfers/taxis, may require reimbursement to Cr Wilkie by Noosa Council.
