4.5 Threatened Fauna
A single Grey-headed Flying-fox (vulnerable under the Commonwealth EPBC Act 1999) was recorded
feeding in a bloodwood during the evening survey. This species occurs in the coastal belt from
Rockhampton to Victoria. The species requires foraging resources and roosting sites. It is a canopy-
feeding frugivore and nectarivore, which utilises vegetation communities including rainforests, open
forests, closed and open woodlands, Melaleuca swamps and Banksia woodlands. It also feeds on
commercial fruit crops and on introduced tree species in urban areas. The primary food source is
blossom from Eucalyptus and related genera but in some areas, it also utilises a wide range of
rainforest fruits. This species is known to occur in landscaped areas, road side plantings and gardens.
There are no flying fox camps within or adjacent to the subject land.
