2 Noise Criteria
2.1 Road Traffic Noise Criteria
2.1.1 Department of Transport and Main Roads
The Department of State Development, Infrastructure and Planning (DSDIP) have released the State
Development Assessment Provisions (SDAP). Module 1.1 ‘Managing noise and vibration impacts
from transport corridors state code’ (DSDIP, 2013) of SDAP includes a summary of noise criteria
taken from TMR’s document entitled ‘Transport and Main Roads Policy for Development on Land
Affected by Environmental Emissions from Transport and Transport Infrastructure Version 2, 10 May
2013’ (DLAEETTI)(TMR, 2013). Road traffic noise criteria included within DLAEETTI is summarised
below in Table 2.1and Table 2.2 for external and internal criteria respectively.
Table 2.1: DLAEETTI External Noise Level Criteria
Transport Development Location within Environmental criteria
Infrastructure type Development
State-controlled Accommodation All facades ≤ 60 dB(A) L10 (18hr) facade corrected
road activities (measured L90 (8hr) free field between 10pm
OR Residential care and 6am ≤ 40dB(A))
Multi-modal facilities ≤ 63 dB(A) L10 (18hr) facade corrected
Corridor which (measured L90 (8hr) free field between 10pm
does not include a and 6am > 40dB(A))
railway or includes Private open space ≤ 57 dB(A) L10 (18hr) free field (measured L90
<15 single railway (18hr) free field between 6am and midnight ≤
events 45dB(A))
≤ 60 dB(A) L10 (18hr) free field (measured L90
(18hr) free field between 6am and midnight >
45dB(A))
Table 2.2: DLAEETTI Internal Noise Level Criteria
Transport Development Location within Environmental criteria
Infrastructure type building
State-controlled Accommodation Habitable rooms all ≤ 35 dB(A) Leq (1hr) (maximum hour over 24 hours)
road activities times
OR Residential care
Busway facilities
OR
Light rail
OR
Multi-modal
corridor which
does not include a
railway or includes
<15 single railway

As the proposed development is located in a transportation noise corridor, it is required to be
assessed under the Queensland Development Code (QDC) MP 4.4 Buildings in a Transport Noise
