Finance & Risk
The proposed local law will be referred to a number of government agencies and released for
public comment during the local law making process. It is very desirable that the current waste
management operations under existing legislation are clearly identified to avoid claims that the
new local law contains provisions in excess of current practice.
Consultation
External Consultation - Community & Stakeholder
James Neilson from King and Co provided verbal advice to a large delegation of Council
representatives who attended a Local Government Seminar 1 September 2017 at Local
Government House in Brisbane on the urgent need for councils to develop a local law on waste
management.
During the presentation he also advised that some councils had not correctly implemented the
existing provisions of Section 7 of the Waste Reduction and Recycling Regulations 2011 and the
Environmental Protection Regulations 2008.
Mr Neilson also provided consultation on these issues during when preparing draft Local Law
No.7.
