REPORT
Background
The 2016 Noosa Social Strategy recommends Council develop a Sport and Active Recreation
Plan (the Plan). The Plan will be a guiding document for the continued development of the sport
and active recreation sector in the Noosa Shire. The Plan aims to provide an understanding of
the current status of the local sport and active recreation sector, emerging industry trends as well
as charting a course for the future. It identifies the providers of sport and recreation services and
facilities in Noosa and actions for future development in terms of participation, facility
development and service provision.
A draft Sport and Active Recreation Plan was developed over a nine month period through
extensive community and industry consultation and progressed through a Sport and Active
Recreation Community Reference Group. The draft Plan was presented to Council in July 2017
and approved for public exhibition and comment.
Consultation on the draft Plan commenced with a launch at Noosa Springs Resort with invitations
sent to all Noosa based sport and active recreation not for profit and commercial providers, peak
regional and state sporting bodies and Department of National Parks Sport and Racing
representatives (including QPWS). Since the launch the following engagement techniques have
been used to gather feedback on the draft Plan:
Council Pop Ups and Library displays;
Interviews with State Government agencies;
Individual discussions with key community organisations, service providers and
representatives;
