RECOMMENDATION
That Council note the report by the Chief Executive Officer to the Services & Organisation
Committee Meeting dated 9 October 2018 and appoint Cr Jackson as Council’s representative
on the NoosaCare Dementia Friendly Community Advisory Board.
REPORT
The Mayor received a request from NoosaCare for Cr Ingrid Jackson to join the NoosaCare
Dementia Friendly Community Advisory Board as a Council representative.
The request noted that it would beneficial to have Cr Jackson join the Advisory Board due to her
experience and involvement in the community. Council’s Social Strategy highlights that “Council
will work with other levels of government and relevant agencies to advocate for essential services
such as medical care, power, water, communications and other essential infrastructure to meet
the needs of Noosa residents. Furthermore, we will partner with key stakeholders to support
initiatives that aim to prevent disease and reduce demand on strained resources”. The
appointment of a Councillor to this Advisory Board will help towards the implementation of this
strategy.
The Mayor discussed the proposed appointment with Cr Jackson who advised that she is
supportive of the proposal.

Risks & Opportunities
The aim of the Advisory Board is to address challenges and provide a supportive environment for
people with dementia, their families, caregivers, employers and the community as a whole. This
is an opportunity to have a Council representative on the Advisory Board which is in line with the
Noosa Council Social Justice Charter which states that Council will work in partnership with our
community to ensure that Noosa is an active and healthy community where health and wellbeing
of individuals and the broad community are nurtured.
