3. Details of Submission
I (We), make the following submission:
It has come to my attention that there may be significant impact on Coral Tree Avenue, Jan Street and
Banksia Avenue during the construction phase of the Calile Hotel, reportedly commencing in 2024.
This issue will compounded by any opening up of Banksia South Road with the Banksia North prtion.
Banksia Avenue was in the past a through road but has been closed for approx. 30 years.
This road closure was made to prevent a 'rat run' through urban streets, promoting safety in this corridor
for many families, pedestrians and small transportation vehicles.
This has been a very successful outcome up till now.
Any increase in hte volume of trafgfic, mostly in the form of construction vehicles during the construction
will greatly increase the risk of traffic accidents and possible injury to the community and tourists.
When these streets formed part of the 'rat run' human behaviour led to increased spped.
The width of Coral Tree Avenue, Jan Street two way transition zone with a 90 degree turn frequently
experiences near misses witht he current traffic volume and type.
Should the Bansia Avenue portions be joined up again during construction phase, the local community run
the risk of this corridor being kept open as people become accustomed to that shortcut.
Due to these risks, I and the other 3 m3mbers of our household strongly object to any relaxation
and reopening of the Bansia Street ends at any stage of construction or post constructon of the Calile Hotel.
The construction phase could potnetioally take many years.
