PLANNING & ENVIRONMENT COMMITTEE MEETING AGENDA 6 SEPTEMBER 2016

The catch and effort over this 22 year period was the result of between 6 to 21 licensed operators
fishing. Conflicts within the commercial fishing sector itself also seem to be exacerbated by the two
main types of commercial fishermen who are authorised to access the fisheries in this area — the
locals and the itinerant fishermen. The locals tend to work as a group to establish and preserve
shot over fish aggregations as they move northwards. Their method of working collectively often
has the by-product of generating disharmony which often spills over into intimidating and other
  behaviours.
These issues of concern have been occurring on the Noosa North Shore for a long time and have
intensified with population growth, tourism growth and the declaration of the Cooloola Recreational
  Area.

Letter to the editor (Noosa News 18/7/2014).
