GENERAL COMMITTEE MEETING AGENDA 13 MARCH 2017
Transport Policy Amendment
The adopted Transport Policy included the following mission for Noosa Council: To encourage
alternative transport usage and reduce dependence on private cars.
Based on further discussions with staff and Councillors it is proposed to amend the Transport
Policy from a mission to a vision statement. The new proposed vision is: Noosa Shire enjoys an
efficient, free flowing transport system that enhances resident and visitor experiences.
Finance & Risk
The Transport Strategy is a key document which will provide guidance for the next 10 years on
addressing the transport challenges faced in the Noosa Shire. Failure to have such a strategy will
result in haphazard responses, which will not be aligned to specific outcomes improving issues of
congestion, car parking, public transport and active transport.
The Transport Strategy can also lead to the deferral or removal of planned expenditure associated
with future intersection upgrades and other road infrastructure.
