RECOMMENDATION
That Council note the report by the Community Engagement Manager to the Planning &
Organisation Committee Meeting dated 9 December regarding the Community Jury Project and
endorse that the question for the first Community Jury be: “What is the best option for minimising
organic waste sent to landfill?”
REPORT
Formation of the Community Jury
Noosa’s first Community Jury is currently being formed through a process of profiling
approximately 200 Noosa Shire residents. These are residents who have responded positively to
an invitation to become members of Noosa’s first Community Jury.
The invitations were sent out in November 2014 via Australia Post to 3000 Noosa Shire residents
randomly selected from the 2014 Electoral Roll.
The profiling and matching of invitation respondents with Noosa’s demographic profile is being
carried out by newDemocracy Foundation.
This process is followed by telephone screening by newDemocracy Foundation to ensure the
potential jury members have the required level of commitment and that they will be able to attend
all meetings.
The final 24 member Jury will be formed prior to 9 January 2015 by newDemocracy Foundation.
Community Jury Meetings
Jury members will attend up to six meetings to be held at the following times:
Saturday, 7 February 9.30am - 4.30pm
Wednesday, 4 March 6.00pm - 9.00pm
