3. Details of Submission
I (We), make the following submission: We strongly object to the proposal (application number MCU15/0095) for a service
station and retail shop at Lot 30 SP170751, 115 Eumundi Noosa Road.
As grandparents, who on occasion transport our grandchildren to and from school, over time we have noticed an increase
in traffic in the vicinity of the Good Shepherd Lutheran College (GSLC). On many occasions, the line of traffic entering
Good Shepherd Lutheran College extends out through the round-a-bout. If the parking at Lot 30 SP170751, 115 Eumundi
Noosa Road is decreased and a new petrol station is introduced with a further influx of traffic, this is going to put pressure
on an already inadequate traffic flow. Furthermore, there is only one pedestrian crossing in the vicinity of the school,
which is not helpful for those who need to cross Walter Hay Drive.
Further to this, we hold grave concerns that a petrol station could be built in such close proximity to the school boundary.
There are numerous studies which puts into question the health and well being of not only the students, but the staff of
GSLC. We do not wish to see any child placed in a compromising position, which in years to come could result in
numerous forms of cancer. It is not only the fumes produced when multiple cars will be filling up with petrol, but also the
extra emissions that they will produce adjacent to the school. Whilst the risk is minimal, there is also the potential for a
gas explosion or petrol fire, which therefore compromises the safety of all at GSLC.
We understand that there is already a petrol station to be constructed at 139 Eumundi Noosa Road. Therefore, why is it
necessary to approve a further station adjacent to the school, which is going to impact on an already heavy traffc flow,
particularly at school drop-off and pick-up periods.
In looking at Noosa Council’s “Noosa Plan”, it would appear that this type of development is outside the boundaries of this
plan, i.e:
Social cohesion and community well-being
Environmental excellence and sustainability
