RECOMMENDATION
That Council note the report by the Environmental Services Manager to the Planning &
Environment Committee Meeting dated 11 February 2020 and:
A. Award the 3 year Multi-year environment grants to the initiatives recommended for funding
as identified in table 1 of the report; and
B. Authorise the CEO to enter into three-year Funding Deeds with successful organisations, as
per the recommended funding amount.
REPORT
At the Ordinary Meeting of February 2019, Council approved the Environment Grants Policy.
Noosa Council has previously provided grants to community groups for environmental projects,
programs and events through the Community Grants Program. There had been no specific criteria
for the assessment of environmental projects, with applications for environmental initiatives being
assessed along with other non-environment community applications.
The Environment Grants Policy allows for three types of Environment Grants to be delivered,
through funding from the Environment Levy;
1. Environment Project Grants
These grants will be for projects, programs or events that align with Council’s key
environment strategies and plans and have a positive impact on the Noosa
environment. They will typically be completed within 12 months of commencement.
2. Environment Organisation Alliance Grants
These grants will provide organisational support to community groups that are primarily
focused on environment activities.
3. Multi-year Environment Collaborative (MEC) Grants
Multi-year Environment Collaborative (MEC) Projects will support longer-term, larger-
scale strategic initiatives that align with the Environment Strategy and have a significant
positive impact on the Noosa Environment.
The Environment Project Grants are delivered at the same time as the Community Grants
Program, utilising the same guidelines. Since the adoption of the Environment Grant Policy, two
rounds of Environment Project Grants have been completed.
