PLANNING & ENVIRONMENT COMMITTEE MEETING AGENDA 11 FEBRUARY 2020
These initiatives will inform and stage the primary objective of the Project:
3. Staged rehabilitation works - volunteers from NICA and partners, in consultation with Noosa Council,
QPWS and supported by Landcare contractors, will rehabilitate the four island sites in stages over
three years using best practice site-specific in-situ techniques. Invasive weed species will be removed
to facilitate rapid natural endemic regeneration and restoration of ecological function; and
4. Awareness and engagement –a diverse community engagement strategy involving innovative
techniques and communication methods will be used to raise awareness, foster volunteer participation
and encourage stewardship of the Project and river; and
5. Monitoring and maintenance – Systematic site-specific monitoring program will preserve rehabilitated
land, whilst photogrammetry and field surveys will be repeated to monitor changes to ecosystem
structure and health.

Project title - Strategic Transformer Woody Vine Weed Management in the Noosa Shire
Brief project overview
Transformer vines threaten the structure and integrity of endangered riparian vegetation, placing
streambanks, water quality and aquatic life at risk. This project will strategically manage priority vine sites in
Noosa Shire to reduce the extent and severity of vine infestations.
Full project description
This project will progress coordination and strategic management of the transformer woody vine weeds in
the Noosa Shire and comprises the following two specific actions:
1) Continued implementation of the Kin Kin Catchment Cats Claw Creeper & Madeira Vine Management
Strategy 2018-2023. Infestations in high priority locations will be treated and eradicated where
feasible.
2) Commencement of the Six Mile Creek Catchment Woody Vine Weeds Management Strategy 2020-
2025 (In preparation). Infestations in high priority locations will be treated and eradicated where
feasible.
Our goal will be to treat, repetitively during the three years, all high priority infestation sites with the aim of
eradication in these areas. Further, community awareness and capacity building activities will be embedded
within the project with targeted workshops and field days (One each year) for landholders in priority areas.
Preliminary on-ground effort pertaining to this funding proposal equates to 168 labour days in the first year,
and approximately 493 labour days over the three year time frame. This labour comprises Noosa Landcare
professional contracting crew, Kabi Kabi Cert III trainees and Skilling Qlders for Work Trainees.
Additional leveraged funding will be sought to boost this projects objectives. Having three years secured
funding to be able to utilise as in-kind funds will greatly assist attempts to value-add this activity.
This project sits as one of three discrete applications within the wider 'Noosa Hinterland Rural Extension
Program'. Educational and awareness activities across all three projects will be shared so be to most efficient
and effective. An overarching steering group comprising MRCCC, Noosa Council, Noosa Landcare and
Country Noosa will form to oversee extension and awareness raising activities. This already occurs in a
casual format with existing programs.
