Dear Sir scg-engineers.com
Re: OPW24/0006 ~ Lot 158 CP 852092, 14 Driftwood Dr, Castaways Beach
We have reviewed Noosa Council’s request for information dated 8 February 2024 and provide our response to
the Engineering related items.
Issue: Driveway Dimensions
The constructed width of the driveway in its current form is considered to be unable to comply with the Overall
Outcomes of both the Low Density Housing Code and Driveways and Parking Code. Note that Council is unlikely
to support the constructed driveway, unless the following information can be provided:
1. Provide amended plans that are prepared by a suitably qualified person (Registered Professional
Engineer of Queensland - RPEQ). The plans must be generally in accordance with Council’s Standard
drawings and include but not be limited to:
a. Revised driveway dimensions that generally comply with Council’s Standard drawings RS-049 &
RS-050.
b. A longitudinal section extending from the centreline of the road formation to the carparking. The
longitudinal section must demonstrate that vehicles (B99 as described in AS/NZS2890.1:2004)
will not scrape or bottom out on either the road formation or the driveway when entering and
exiting the site.
c. The location of existing street trees.
d. Show on the revised plans which sections of the driveway are to be removed to reestablish on-
street parking spaces. From Council’s measurements it is recommended that the following
clearances be maintained either side of the driveway.
Response:
As the proposed driveway has already been constructed, we seek Council approval for the non-compliant
driveway dimensions. The built driveway provides 5.45m clearance between the neighbouring driveway and 25m
to the tangent point of Antipodes Close.
Therefore, cutting the existing concrete adds no net gain to on-street parking, but rather the wider driveway
provides additional off-street parking. Please see attached plans to indicate dimensions and a longitudinal section
of the driveway. Upon reviewing vertical clearance templates, it is noted that low vehicles would likely scrape.
However, as the road and existing garage levels are fixed there is no outcome to mitigate this issue.

Issue: Tree
4. Provide mitigation measures to retain the street tree and maintain it’s health while completing the driveway
rectification works.
Response:
The existing tree measures 4.5m clear of the driveway. We believe the request for an arborist report is excessive
and seek Council to reconsider this request.
If you require any further information, please do not hesitate to contact our office.
Yours faithfully
