Full name of submitter: DAVID LANG MCCREADY Details of Submission 10. I (We) make the following submission: The proposed opening of Pinaroo Way to traffic (see Traffic Report) assumes 50% of traffic flow to this new link road to the roundabout. Traffic increase would be exponential and Pinaroo Way will become like any major road in the region. This is alarming in view of the previous quiet park use of that current laneway. In Council forums it was stated that "calming" measures would be employed and consultants seemed to downplay the extent of the traffic. It is clear that traffic from the west/north would use that access and crossings will be imperative to protect pedestrians. Adjacent is a park area which has facilities including BBQ's and swings etc. Children and other users will be at risk due to the heavy flow of traffic. Persons entering and leaving shopping precincts are often harried and crossings are highly dangerous close to intersections/roundabouts. This is not a safe environment for park users. Plans appear to indicate loss of trees along the park edge to the development which I would strenuously oppose. This park is a slender remnant of vegetation in an increasing urban environment. It is a link for koalas and is thickly populated with bird species, a list of which can be provided. Loss of mature grey gums would be a tragedy. Any works on the site should be done on the basis that these trees are sacred. The developer should not have the right to use or enter parkland for their operations, the product of which, is often, damage and loss of trees. The plans appear to indicate a quite wide carriageway near the intersection of the roundabout. It is not reasonable to lose irreplaceable parkland for commercial development. The planning on Pinaroo way should be such that it is as narrow as possible to make access not so attractive . The alternative is to attract larger flows, causing more safety issues and virtually transplanting a highway onto previous quiet parkside areas. I have no issue with the use application but oppose all reduction of parkland or loss of trees. 11.
