As the proposed Cooroy Car Wash is proposed to be located between the two (2) existing
Service Stations, on the ‘service’ side of the railway line; it is in an ideal location for a Car Wash
business to be successful.
Table 12 goes on to show that with the inclusion of the proposed Cooroy Car Wash there will be
an estimated annual reduction of over 33,300 times that a car will not be washed at home/work
every year and subsequently have the contaminated effluent water drain into the local
stormwater system. This results in a reduction of around 4 ML of contaminated stormwater not
draining into the local stormwater system- a massive 38% reduction due to the proposed Cooroy
Car Wash facility!
Table 13 goes on to calculate the resultant decrease in pollution load which discharges into the
local stormwater system. By approving the proposed Cooroy Car Wash there will be a reduction
of around 800 kg/year of suspended solids, a 28% drop in heavy metal loading such as copper,
lead and zinc, a reduction of over 230 kg/year of total organic carbon, a reduction of around
20kg/year of Hydrocarbons and a reduction of around 110 kg/year of surfactants entering the
local stormwater system. This is a substantial improvement on the current local car washing
practices and the merit of this and resultant ecological improvement to the local waterways,
marine life, plant and animal habitat should not be discounted.
If the estimated patronage of the proposed Cooroy Car Wash site increases over that estimates,
these figures will further decrease contaminated discharges into the local stormwater system.
