PLANNING & ORGANISATION COMMITTEE MEETING AGENDA 23 JUNE 2015
2. Building and Plumbing Core Activities
During 2014/15 there has been an increase of 15% in plumbing applications compared to
the previous year. However, whilst there has been an increase in applications, this has not
been reflected in a similar increase in revenue from fees and charges. This is primarily due
to the majority of applications received being residential applications which attract a lower
fee than commercial applications. The original budget estimates included a higher level of
commercial applications being received and it is difficult to predict the type and quantity of
applications received during the year.
The following table provides an analysis of the ‘Core Activities’ for the period 1 July 2014 to
31 May 2015.

As can be seen by the above analysis, the net position demonstrates that the Branch has
improved on its financial targets with respect to ‘Core Activities’. It should also be noted that
the above expenditure includes Customer Service Obligation costs of approximately
$270,000 reflecting the provision of general advice and management of complaints by
customers which do not attract any fee revenue.
