I refer to the report from Royal HaskoningDHV (RHDHV) providing an assessment of the vulnerability of the property at 4 - 6 Arakoon Cresent Sunshine Beach( Lot 484 and 485 RP48111) - Royal HaskoningDHV Report Reference: PA3660-RHD-XX-ZZ-RP-Z-0001.



I have reviewed the erosion assessment for the property and conclude that it meets the requirement of the department’s Coastal Hazard Technical Guide, which sets out the methodology for calculating the Erosion Prone Area (EPA) width. I also note that the report was previously reviewed by Professor Rodger Tomlinson in relation to another matter and there were some technical issues identified in the report related to data quality sampling frequency.  I am satisfied that these have been resolved within the limits of available data. The report calculates the EPA distance as 80m from the line of the present-day toe of dune which is defined on a survey plan within the report. I also note the conservatism in the calculation including the application of a 140% safety factor.



Accordingly, the area 80m inland from the toe of dune is accepted as the area of land exposed to coastal erosion (Component 1 of the EPA). RHDHV have summarised the calculation in Table 6.5 and indicated the location of this area in cross hatching on Figure 6-11 in the report (copied below). That figure shows the full extent of the area at risk of erosion, including the area potentially inundated by sea level rise to 2100 which is nil at these sites.



This assessment can be provided to SARA as confirmation that the Department of Environment, Science and Innovation supports this assessment of the property’s vulnerability to coastal erosion. The EPA Plan distance and footprint mapping at this location will be formally amended at a future time.
