Section 5.1
Prevention Prevention includes those measures to eliminate, mitigate or
reduce the likelihood of a disaster event occurring, or the severity
of an event should it eventuate.
Hazard mitigation is the action taken in advance of a disaster,
aimed at eliminating or reducing the impact on communities, the
economy, infrastructure and the environment.
The implementation of appropriate and targeted mitigation
initiatives can offer more sustainable cost savings to
communities and government in the event of a disaster and result
in safer, more resilient and sustainable communities.
